  1. APPR Version 3.02014-2015

  2. The Good News…… • No significant changes to Schalmont’s APPR for this year • Value added model not going into effect this year as scheduled

  3. Political Updates to APPR • Limits placed on instructional time students in grades K-2 may spend taking traditional standardized tests as part of APPR – only 1% of instructional time (approximately 9 hours) • Limits placed on instructional time students in any grade may spend on traditional test preparation for assessments related to APPR (Regents, 3-8 State Tests, AIMSweb, Final Exams…) • Delay to implementation of value added model

  4. Documentation (just in case) • The instructional time limits must be verified by the superintendent and submitted to SED. • You may be asked to sign something documenting that you stayed within these time limits. • How you keep track of this is entirely up to you. Schalmont will not ask for this documentation and it is for your own protection. • If the State visits us again, teachers could be asked to provide documentation.

  5. Don’t be Enid……

  6. Some ideas for documentation of test preparation • Keep track of time in your plan book • Note time on review packets and keep in a folder • List dates and times of review The bottom line is to be mindful of the 18 hour limit

  7. APPR Assessments

  8. Rules for assessment security Pre-tests for 20% growth are the only assessments with no security rules All other assessments are supposed to mirror the protocols of State Test administration

  9. Security surrounding assessments • Protocols will be developed collaboratively in each building regarding copying, distribution, collection, storage and correcting • Remember you should not have copies of assessments used for APPR in your possession

  10. Assessment Calendar • Each building will also collaboratively develop an assessment calendar for APPR assessments • Grade levels/departments will be asked to provide date, time, and duration of assessments that are not State Tests • This information will then be used to develop the assessment calendar • One week make up window for testing – who will administer these make up exams will be determined as part of the calendar

  11. Test revisions • Concentrated work during the 2014-15 school year as part of the Teaching is the Core Grant • Any significant changes will go into effect for 2015-16 • If you want to make changes to locally developed post-tests or final exams for this year, you have until the end of October to do so. • For all locally developed tests related to APPR, we need clearly written directions for administration of tests for consistency and agreed to accepted practices for scoring.

  12. 7th Grade ELA and Math Teachers • This year only you will use an SLO to determine your growth score • There are some options as the SLOs are developed • You will be guided through this process and how to set your targets. MaryBeth Flatley will meet with you today or tomorrow to go over options for the SLO development. Please remember a pretest is not required.

  13. Other Please remember that everyone needs to be evaluated on an annual basis. As part of the renegotiation for next year, we will also be looking at the forms for guidance, OT/PT, nurses, social workers, psychologists, and teaching assistants. Please continue to ask questions.
