  1. Inter-AS MPLS TE Requirementsdraft-zhang-mpls-interas-te-req-00.txt Raymond Zhang, INFONET Kenji Kumaki, KDDI JP Vasseur, Cisco Paul Mabey, Qwest Nadim Constantine, INFONET draft-zhang-mpls-interas-te-req-00.txt

  2. Overview of the Draft • TE WG Charter “ … The working group may also consider the problems of traffic engineering across autonomous systems boundaries …” • This requirements draft is driven by SPs with MPLS TE needs: • beyond their own AS boundaries • or multiple ASes within their own admin domain • Currently several major SPs, such as INFONET, KDDI, Qwest, are in support of this draft. draft-zhang-mpls-interas-te-req-00.txt

  3. Overview of the Draft • Problems and Requirements • Issues with BGP-based inter-as routing policies: • Sub-optimum routing • Un-deterministic traffic condition changes • It is rather difficult to do transmission resource optimization across different ASes for stricter QoS requirements. • Inter-AS traffic cannot be fast protected in case of ASBR failure or inter-AS link failure • Need to extend intra-AS TE into multiple ASes draft-zhang-mpls-interas-te-req-00.txt

  4. Overview of the Draft • Application Scenarios: Extended or Virtual POP CE2 VPN-Mars SP1 (GSP) Inter-AS DS-TE for Extended trunking ASBR CE1 VPN-Mars CE3 VPN-Mars ASBR SP2 (RSP) V-POP RTR draft-zhang-mpls-interas-te-req-00.txt

  5. Overview of the Draft • Application Scenarios: End-to-End Inter-AS MPLS/TE (CE-CE) CE2 VPN-Mars SP1 (GSP) E2E Inter-AS DS-TE ASBR CE1 VPN-Mars CE3 VPN-Mars ASBR SP2 (RSP) PE draft-zhang-mpls-interas-te-req-00.txt

  6. Overview of the Draft • Other Application Scenarios: • Deployment of Inter-AS TE in SP’s multi-AS network • Allow for traffic optimization and path protection /restoration beyond AS boundaries • Transit AS TE paths • Utilize other SP’s network as either primary or backup paths via inter-AS TE with FRR across AS boundaries draft-zhang-mpls-interas-te-req-00.txt

  7. Overview of the Draft • Major Detailed Requirements: • Interoperable with current intra-AS MPLS TE operations, e.g. provisioning and mgnt. • DS-TE Support • Diverse routing and FRR • Path signaling and computations • Support for LSP aggregations • Inter-AS confidentiality and policy control draft-zhang-mpls-interas-te-req-00.txt

  8. Overview of the Draft • Evaluation Criteria • Should satisfy detailed requirements • Scalability and extensibility • Performance • Backward compatibility • Security Considerations • Inter-AS trust model • Policy control • Others… draft-zhang-mpls-interas-te-req-00.txt

  9. Conclusion • We would like to invite comments from other SPs: • Already 4 SPs are seeing concrete requirements • Equant has recently joined the draft • We would like to propose the TE WG to adopt this draft as a WG document draft-zhang-mpls-interas-te-req-00.txt
