  3. UPO Sept. 28 2012 TDRs follow-up • CMS FB sub-committee • Pixel costbook is approved • HCAL costbook review is in progress • L1-Trigger TDR • CDR part 1 for the L1-Trigger will take place on Oct. 4 • Motivation and scope of the project • Status of design and development work: Calorimeter, Muons and Global trigger systems • Organization and status of preparationhttps://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=208762 • CDR part 2 TDR document end of November • RRB session Oct. 16 • Document on “Financial plan for CMS upgrade” in preparation

  4. UPO Sept. 28 2012 Upgrade week Oct29-Nov02 • Goals of the week • L1- Trigger Upgrade • Follow-up of CDR part 1 on strategy and technical scope • Preparation of CDR part 2 TDR document • Presentation in WGM on Wed. • Towards longer term • Longevity of all detectors to/through phase 2 • Plans for combined physics studies • Working Group Reports (interim reports due to MB by end of 2012) • Project and cross coordination meetings • Agenda proposal  see next slide

  5. UPO 2/2/12 Proposal for Upgrade Week

  6. UPO Sept. 28 2012 Upgrade Organization • Trigger Performance and Forward Detector Working Groups • Proposal for new sub-groups - see presentations at this agenda • Dedicated Study Groups • Feasibility to replace EB FE electronics to allow higher L1 rate and longer latency in the time scale of LS3  TC/Tracker/ECAL document by Oct. Upgrade week • Longevity of electronics across CMS detectors  electronics coordination • CMS-TOTEM common project post LS1  HPS group and TOTEM collaboration document by end of this year • Physics Working Groups • Forum for interaction between physics and UP is “Future Higgs WG” • Meets Wed 2:00 • A formal subgroup of HIG, but also used by SUS, EXO • ESPG & Snowmass • written update for ESPG by Oct 15 • Strengthen projections with studies included in current TDRs • Work continues as part of expanded effort towards Snowmass (July 2013) • Additional milestones in Nov, Dec • Include input from Forward & Trigger WGs • “physics-TDR” under discussion • CMS physics goals and projected performance through phase 1 and phase 2

  7. UPO Sept. 28 2012 Phase 2 Upgrade Program for 2013 • Longevity of detectors through phase 1 and phase 2 (projects and electronics coord.) • Determine when phase 1 detectors will have to be replaced • Determine what components are at risk for operation through all phase 2 • Constraints from experimental areas (Technical Coordination) • Consider infrastructure limitations and installation constraints • Estimate activation levels and implications and shieldingneeds • Scope for phase 2 detector • Physics goals detector requirements (Physics Analyses SubGroups) • Trigger Performance and Strategy (WG across upgrade bodies) • Forward Detector (WG across upgrade bodies) • Tracker project • Simulation and reconstruction (POGs - Offline/PPD/Computing) • Target R&D programs (Detector Projects and Working Groups) • Common systems (Electronics and Online Coordination) • Prepare an internal document (focus for June 2013 Upgrade week in DESY) describing goals, requirements, and options for the Phase 2 scope • CMS discusses the document ~summer 2013 • By late 2013 develop decision path to define scope for Technical Proposal

  8. UPO Sept. 28 2012 CMS 2012 Achievements awards CB call for yearly-based students & postdocs Achievement The involved areas are: - PMs:  Tk, ECAL, HCAL, Muo, TriDas - Coordinators: Run, Trigger, Computing, Offline, PPD, and Upgrade Each area should propose 2 nominations. The deadline for nominations will be October 31st. The nominees will be announced at the November 2nd CB meeting, and the 2012 Achievement Awards ceremony will take place at the December CMS Opening Plenary Session. Please send nominations by Oct. 15 including a brief description of achievements
