  1. 2010 Construction Contract Standards Training Part 2 Prototype October 2011

  2. Putting 2010 Together • Web site • Guidance Documents http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/esc/oe/specifications/2010_guidance/

  3. Putting 2010 Together Start with the 2010 Bid Item List

  4. Step 1 – Bid Item List Open up the 2010 Bid Item List and find your item For example, if you need Traffic Control System, then it is item 120100, paid for by the lump sum, and set forth by Section 12-5

  5. Step 1 – Bid Item List What if I’m converting my Project BEES from 2006 to 2010? A. Verify that item numbers and item descriptions stayed the same. For example, let’s look at Sand Cover. In 2006, the item number is 365001 Sand Cover In 2010, it is 370001 Sand Cover (Seal) Revise your project BEES to match the items on the 2010 Bid Item List

  6. Step 1 – Bid Item List What if I can’t find my item? Use the Find function to search for the item code number. Use the Find function to search for the item description. Try single word searches if the full description didn’t find a match.

  7. Step 2 – Assembling the SSPs Find the SP TEMPLATE at this website in the “read me first” folder http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/esc/oe/specifications/SSPs/2010-SSPs/

  8. Open up the SSP Index and look for the SSPs you will need for your project. • For example, • STDPLN for your standard plans • 1-1.01 for bid items that correspond to different section numbers • and many more . . .

  9. Insert and edit the SSPs that you will need for your project into the SP_Template file. Edit STDPLN for the applicable standard plans Edit 1-1.01 for the applicable items in the estimate. If you have non-standard item codes, they need to be added at the end of the table. Double Click on the icon to see the edited template

  10. Next, look through the SSP Index for SSPs that you will need for your items. The Bid Item List will give you a start as to what specs may be needed for the item For example, the item Traffic Control System is set forth by section 12-5, 12-6

  11. However, just because the Bid Item List says you need 12-5 for your traffic control system, it doesn’t mean you won’t need other specs as well

  12. Assembling the special provisions

  13. 2006 Index vs 2010 Index – Because some of the 2006 SSPs have been incorporated to the 2010 Standard Specs, there will be fewer specs in the 2010 than in the 2006. 2006 Prototype SSP Index 2010 Prototype SSP Index

  14. Tips for Understanding the 2010 Standards • Read applicable sections of the Std Specs • Consider what other sections may cover a topic and read that section

  15. Tips for Understanding the 2010 Standards • Keep the Std Specs close by to read what is in the Standard and what is being modified by the SSP. • Keep in mind that SSPs are shorter now and that information has been moved from the SSPs to the Standard Specs and from one section to another section.

  16. For example, this paragraph from SSP 05-060 in the 2006 SSPs is now in 37-2.03D of the Standard Specifications

  17. Where did it go? • Use the find function to search the Standard Specs to find the information • Think about what other sections the information could be in. What am I really looking for and what does it affect?

  18. What does my Book look like? Double Click on the icon to see the SSPs when they go to BBU Double Click on the icon to see the final Notice to Bidders and Special Provisions

  19. Any questions?
