  2. Agenda • Solution 1: extended FRR bypass protection • Solution 2: extended steering protection

  3. Solution 1 ( path configuration) A F Tunnel 1 Designated node • There are two tunnels between each ring node and designated node F ,so it needs to configure 2(n-1) protection tunnels if there are n nodes in a ring; • For designated node F and node B, two bidirectional tunnels will be configured separately: F<->A<->B tunnel and F<->E<->D<->C<->B tunnel B E Tunnel 2 C D

  4. Solution 1 (traffic instance) A F • There is a traffic from B to E , under normal state, the working path is B->C->D ->E Source Sink B E E(C)0 E(E)0 payload payload E(D)0 payload C D

  5. Solution 1 (failure state ) A F F(F)0 D(E)0 G-ACH • When two failures have been detected , Node B and D will send failure Message to F by red tunnel and green tunnel. • When Node F receives these two notifying messages, it will bind red tunnel and green tunnel together. • Then the failure message from node D which includes the entry label of D will reach node B, and the same process to node B. F(A)0 G-ACH TLV G-ACH TLV B E TLV D(D)0 G-ACH Failure Notify TLV C D Type Length LSP identifier+Entry Label

  6. Solution 1 (traffic instance) F A F(F)0 E(D)0 D(E)0 • Under the failure state, when node B receives the failure message from node D, it will send the traffic packet with the entry label of D (the pink label in the fig ). F(A)0 traffic E(D)0 E(D)0 traffic B E traffic D(D)0 E(D)0 traffic C D Original working path

  7. Solution 2 (path configuration) P2MP Source P2P Source A F • The P2P from A to D will be configured as working path (A-F-E-[D]) and protection path is (A-B-C-[D]). • The P2MP from F to E and C will be configured as working path (F-[E]-D-[C]) and protection path is (F-A-B-[C]-D-[E]). Working path Protection path B E P2MP Sink C D P2MP Sink P2P Sink

  8. Solution 2 (failure state) A F • When a failure is detected in the link C-D, node C or D will send APS message to all the other nodes (A,B,E,F) in the ring by APS Channel. APS Channel B E failure C D

  9. Solution 2 (Bridge) F A • When node A and F receive the failure message, all traffic from the source nodes will be sent to both its working and protection path. • Node A and F will send the P2P and P2MP traffic packets along black and red path at the same time. P2P P2MP B E C D
