Long-Term-Memory

Long-Term-Memory. In long-term memory (abbreviated as LTM), information is stored from seconds to years, until its retrieval. Input to LTM is information from short-term memory. Often, a process of consolidation is assumed to enhance storage of information (Müller & Pilzecker, 1900). .

  1. Long-Term-Memory In long-term memory (abbreviated as LTM), information is stored from seconds to years, until its retrieval. Input to LTM is information from short-term memory. Often, a process of consolidation is assumed to enhance storage of information (Müller & Pilzecker, 1900). Contributor © POSbase 2003

  2. Long-Term-Memory LTM‘s capacity is very large, and some studies suggest that all information ever encountered is stored in LTM, but that it is difficult to retrieve it (Penfield, 1959). LTM is not perfect because we forget information (Ebbinghaus, 1885), and new information may change the contents of LTM (Loftus & Palmer, 1974). © POSbase 2003

  3. Long-Term-Memory There have been many distinctions between several forms of long-term memory: • Explicit versus implicit memory • Episodic, semantic, and procedural memory • Declarative versus procedural memory • Verbal memory versus visual memory © POSbase 2003
