  2. Directing Meaning “The heart of administration is the directing function which involves determining the course, giving orderes and instructions,providing the dynamic leadership”.

Features • Deals with people-Direction is a complex function as managers have to deal with people having diverse goals. • Seeks performance-It helps in translates plans into action & helps in securing desired performance at minimum cost. • Provides a link-It provides link between different functions in an organisation.

  4. Pervasive-It is performed by all the managers at all level of an organisation. • Dynamic & continuous-Whenever plans change,the techniques of direction also change on a continuous basis.

  5. Importance of directing • It initiates action-Because of direction subordinates understand their jobs and do according to the instructions laid. Whatever are plans laid, can be implemented only once the actual work starts. • It Ingrates Efforts-It is through direction the efforts of every department can be related and integrated with others. • Means of Motivation- A manager makes use of the element of motivation here to improve the performances of subordinates.

It Provides Stability-stability can be brought upon by the managers with the help of four tools of direction function leadership, communication, strict supervision and efficient motivation. • Coping up with the changes-To incorporate & implement the changes,mgmt should motivate individuals affected by these changes,which is an essential part of direction. • Efficient Utilization of Resources-Direction helps in maximum possible utilization of resources of men, machine, materials and money which helps in reducing costs and increasing profits.
