    2. Who Are We? The Shade IPT consists of: Industry - garment and material suppliers Government: Army, Marine Corps (MC), Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Defense Supply Center of Philadelphia (DSCP), and Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES)

    3. Background The Shade IPT was established based on a recommendation from a senior management team from Industry (Group of 6) and Government (DLA and the Services)

    5. Accomplishments Revised and implemented evaluation procedures to allow Government shade evaluation laboratories to communicate results to Prime and Sub-contractors (Finishers) and DSCP concurrently Conducted a survey of Industry to obtain feedback on existing shade process. Results showed the following: Industry does not understand the Government shade evaluation and accept/reject assessment and resolution processes Industry identified a need for a consistent and clear process (different terminology, different acceptance/rejection assessment) Drafted a list of shade evaluation terms for standardization among Services to assist industry in understanding the information provided in the test reports Industry conducted meeting to establish immediate needs Standards and Tolerances

    6. Accomplishments Established the “as-is” Process Mapping for DSCC, DSCP, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Industry Process includes: Current Shade Standards and Tolerances Industry’s Finishing and Internal Shade Evaluation Government Shade Evaluation (Pass/Fail criteria) Shade Assessment (Accept/Reject based on mission needs) Shade Communication and Contractual Processes

    7. Current Efforts Finalize and Standardize a Government list of shade evaluation terms Develop Standard Process with standard criteria across Services for shade evaluation and acceptance/rejection assessment Investigate making existing shade database available on Web Including L*a*b* readings with Standard Samples Government Shade Instrument Correlation Study with Industry

    8. Future Efforts Establish a Value Stream Map for Shade Evaluation and Assessment Process – Lean Process Improvement Use results of Shade Instrument Correlation Study to determine if numerical tolerances are feasible Brief recommended process changes to Industry Implement changes

    9. Summary We are progressing steadily, but it will take some time to complete the process Coordinating across multiple Services and Industries Building consensus on appropriate changes Clear, standard process will remove ambiguities and make future improvements easier to implement
