  1. 2009 Summer Plan 2009-06-29 Ju-Won Park jwpark@gist.ac.kr Networked Media Lab., Dept. Information and Communications Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST)

  2. Status Review • 10th semester of Ph. D (done: DQE, Pre-defense) • Defense by Dec. 2009 • Research Topics • Application-driven resource provisioning for distributed contents delivery over optical network • Project • Future Internet Project • KISTI project backup • Research Group • Future Internet Team • Current paper status • Under-review (Photonic network Communications) • Preparing (IEEE/OSA JOCN, IEICE)

  3. Research Overview- Application-driven resource provisioning for distributed contents delivery over optical network • Challenges • How to guarantee diverse application QoS requirement in sparse-splitting optical network • How to support parallel streaming for real-time media delivery • Possible solution • Hierarchical approach for MC-RWA based on virtual node • Minimize the wavelength channel cost for multicast session • QoS-driven multicast routing in optical network • Transport layer parallel streaming • Rate coordinator: Dynamic rate control based on the network condition • Content coordinator: Data segment assignment to multiple replicas.

  4. Paper Roadmap Present the functionality for parallel TCP streaming Suggest the relationship between rate and contents coordinators Parallel streaming with consideration of optical network constraints IwQoS’08 IEICE or other SCI journal International Conference (TBD) Heuristic algorithm for interactive real-time media Suggest the ILP formulation for optimal solution IEEE/OSA JOCN WOC’08 Present the optimal MC-RWA for media streaming (using parallel connections) Focused on the hierarchy-based approach Photonic Netw. Commu. Present the combination solution of two topics Propose the basic concept Refine/develop the concept ~ Aug. 2009 ~ Dec. 2009 ~ 2008

  5. Work Plan • Paper Plan • QoS-driven multicast routing in sparse-splitting optical network • IEEE/OSA JOCN: revision-15th, Aug, submission- 30th, Aug. • Parallel streaming for real-time online multimedia environments • IEICE or Springer: revision – 15th, July. submission- 30th, July. • Project • FI • Midterm milestone ( 30th, July) • KISTI • Undertake the KISTI project

  6. Expected output • Paper • Submission • 2 journal papers (IEEE/OSA JOCN, IEICE) • Draft • 1 domestic conference ( KICS ) • Thesis • Initial draft ( ~ Aug. 2009) • Project • FI: midterm milestone • KISTI: Final report
