What is Stress? Stress is a psychological and physiological response to events that upset our personal balance in some way An event is good or bad If the changes it brings strain our coping skills and adaptive resources The end result is the personal feeling of stress and the body's biological stress response.

Memory problems Difficulty in decision making Inability to concentrate Digestive problems High blood pressure Weight gain or loss Seeing the negative part Losing your temper Poor judgment Restlessness and anxiety Depression. Easily irritated Headache Muscle tension and pain. Sleep disturbances Fatigue Increase in usage of alcohol and drug Skin problems Lack of confidence. Conflicts Two or more mismatched needs or goals A working mother might feel torn over a job offer that would advance her career, but take time away from her family Pressures Expectations of others or the demands you place on yourself You may feel pressure to get good grades in order to please your parents or get into a good school
What creates Stress? When change occurs (good or bad) we usually experience some degree of Stress S=P>R Stress occurs when the pressure is greater than the resource • Getting proficiency in studies • Financial or personal difficulties in Studies • Attend an interview without proper preparation
How can I change my lifestyle habits to manage stress better? • Get enough sleep • Connect with others • Develop a support system and share your feelings • Exercise regularly • Eat a balanced, nutritious diet • Reduce caffeine and sugar • Take time to think and relax • Read a good book • Work on a hobby • Listen to Music
Don’t self-medicate with alcohol or drugs • Do something for yourself everyday • Have realistic expectations • Proper time Management • Give priority to the most important tasks and do those first • Express your feelings instead of bottling them up • Reframe problems -See problems as opportunities • Family trip • Yoga • Meditation • Some Relaxation techniques
