  1. Welcome to Third Grade New Midway Elementary Lindsay Tokar

About Me • I am a graduate from Mount Saint Mary’s University with a degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. • I am currently attending Hood College pursuing a Master’s Degree in Curriculum Instruction. • This will be my fifth year at New Midway/Woodsboro Elementary. • I live in Thurmont, Maryland with my husband of two years • In my spare time, I coach CYA cheerleading and root for the Washington Redskins!

  3. Our Schedule *Tuesdays: Tech Time from 1:45-2:45 *Wednesdays: Library Exchange from 2:45-3:15 *Tuesdays and Wednesdays: Phonics *Fridays: Double Specials from 9:50-11:25

  4. Social Studies and Science Units • Science Units (Mrs. Quirk) • Populations, Rocks and Soil, Chemical Tests • Social Studies (Mrs. Tokar) • Geography, Immigration and Government, Economics Third Grade Field Trips • Earth Space Science Lab • Baltimore National Aquarium

  6. Homework • Up to 30 minutes daily • Please check the agenda every night for homework. • Homework must be turned in the next day to avoid any deductions in your student’s grade.

  7. Math Investigations Book • Each child will receive an Investigations Handbook that are to be kept at home. This book will be a useful tool in understanding homework and the teachings of the Investigations program. We strongly encourage these books remain in your child’s backpack for the school year to ensure it does not get lost or ruined.

  8. Grades • Grades will be based on classwork, participation, homework, quizzes/tests, observations, assessments and benchmarks • At least one graded assignment per week in each of the curricular areas that appear on the report card • A number system will be used to grade: • “A”: 90%-100% • “B”: 80%-89% • “C”: 70%-79% • “D”: 60%-69%

  9. Late Work Policy • When a student has not completed classwork/homework by the given due date, teachers will accept the work up to five school days past the original date with a penalty of one letter grade per day. • After the 5th day, the work will no longer be accepted and a score of a zero for the given assignment.

  10. Missed Work due to Absence • When a student is absent from school, they may have two school days for every one day of absence in order to make up given assignments. • If the student is unable to complete the work within the two day allotment, the late work policy will go into effect. • Teachers will supply make up work for extended absences after the student returns to school
