  8. English Language Learners (ELL) • All students with a second language, upon initial enrollment in Illinois Public Schools, are screened for possible entry into the ELL Program. (W-APT Screener) • Classroom teacher has ELL endorsement and services provided within the classroom • ACCESS Test given in January and results sent home in the fall

  10. What is PBIS? • PBIS = Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports • A method to proactively teach school-wide expectations • Franzen Expectations • Be Respectful • Be Responsible • Be Safe • Students are given examples of how to be respectful, responsible, and safe throughout our school!

  11. Franzen students are given examples of how to be respectful, responsible and safe in all areas of our building through the use of our school-wide matrix!

  12. PBIS (cont.) • All District #10 schools are utilizing PBIS • Successful students who meet expectations are awarded a ‘Franzen Five’ ticket for weekly classroom drawings and quarterly school-wide drawings. Successful students could earn several tickets daily. • Students who need continued behavior support are identified and monitored in ways that mirror our existing academic RTI model.

Math Facts -children are given five minutes to solve 100 math problems -students will be tested on addition, subtraction, and multiplication -the goal for each student is to pass with a score of 100%, 99% or a 98% -students will have many chances to pass their mad minutes during the quarter -if a students does not achieve mastery they will earn an “NI” needs improvement on their report card

  14. Cursive Expectations Third grade students will complete lessons in cursive handwriting throughout the first two quarters. Starting in January, students slowly move from print to cursive on all assignments and homework. Spelling test expectations are that words are written with the correct cursive connections, or 1 point will be taken off the total grade.

  15. Our Daily Schedule Third grade starts the day with specials (art, Music, P.E., computers and library). Reading and math are both taught in the morning. Target Time activities will be provided to fit the learning needs of the students and will be be incorporated into our schedule at a designated time. Lunch 11:30 – 11:55 Recess 11:55 – 12:20

  16. Specials Remind your child to bring: -gym shoes on P.E. days (Monday and Tuesday) -library books on Library day (Monday) -smock for Art (and an Art Portfolio)

  17. Assignment Notebooks Please check your child’s notebook every night. Assignment notebooks must be brought back to school each day.

Homework About 20-30 minutes a night Expect math homework each night Practice spelling words & math facts Read,Read,Read If your child forgets his/her textbook or workbook at school, you can make copies at the Itasca Library. Homework notes will be given when homework is not completed on time.

  19. Assessments • AIMSweb • Assessed three times during the school year • Fall/winter/spring • iReady • Assessed three times during the school year • Fall/winter/spring • PARCC • Assessed once during the school year • Two week period of time in March or April

Assessments: AIMSweb • Three times yearly students are monitored by their teachers • These quick checks monitor fluency, comprehension, and mathematics fluency • Students monitored against district and national norms to check progress • First reading and math assessments will take place August 22nd-September 2nd

Assessments: Curriculum & Associates iReady • iReady Assessment will replace Discovery Education Assessment • Students will take reading & math assessment August and early September • Will also take reading & math assessment during winter and spring • Assessment will: • Diagnose learning levels • Monitor growth over time with comparisons to district and national norms • Recommend targeted, individual instructional strategies

Attendance • As outlined by the state of Illinois a student is considered chronic truant if, ‘absent without valid cause from such attendance for 5% or more of the previous 180 regular attendance days (9 days within the previous school days)’ • 5% =9 school days Valid reasons for absence 1. Illness 2. Observance of religious holiday 3. Death in the immediate family 4. Family emergency 5. Other circumstances outside of the student’s control as identified by the board of education in each district 6. Other circumstances which cause reasonable concern to the parent for the safety or health of the student

Please call the office if your child will be absent • 630-773-0100 , extension 7004 (put this in your phone’s contact notes) • Phones are answered at 7:50am • Please call absence line or school prior to 8:30am daily • If you would like to pick up that day’s homework, please notify the office of that when you call. Homework can be picked up from 2:30-4:00pm daily. It can also be sent home with another student, if requested. • Homework will not be sent in advance for unexcused absences. Spelling lists, independent reading books and vacation journals may be sent independently by homeroom teachers.

  24. Birthdays • All birthday treats are non-food items (pencils, erasers, stickers)

  25. Morning Snack • Fruits and Vegetables that do not spill, drip on desks, or require a spoon for eating. • THANK YOU ! • No Peanuts –We are a A Peanut Free School
