FinalProject Proposal: First-Person Virtual Tour Sean Fleming
What Is It? An interactive and informative way to explore the new art and interactive multimedia building. It will replicate a first-person point-of-view game in which you can navigate and explore the environment.
What Is Its Purpose? Give prospective students the ability to learn more about the College and explore the campus in the comfort of their own homes. Improve upon current “virtual tours” provided by Colleges and Universities across the country and around the world. Expand and improve my knowledge and skills in regards to interactive multimedia techniques and software.
What Inspired It? Previous projects such as an 8-bit simulation and a 3D Model of the AIMM building were an inspiration in deciding to pursue this project. The 3D model, still in development, will be essential when creating this project.
What Will It Require? The majority of the tour will be developed using Maya 2011 and Unity, which will serve as the game engine. Additional models will be provided through Google’s 3D Warehouse, which provides free, 3D models.
Maya Maya will be used to complete the interior of the building, texture the model, and adjust the model in order for it to smoothly import into Unity.
Google 3D Warehouse Google 3D Warehouse is a great resource for free, 3D models, which will allow me to accurately furnish the interior of the building. Objects can be exported from Google Sketch-Up Pro into Maya as polygons using the .obj file type.
Unity Unity is a game development program that will allow me to create the 3D tour for web or mobile use. Capable of importing 3D models from Maya.
Presentation At the IMM Showcase in April, my project will be interactive, not static, however, it still will not require more than a computer, keyboard, and mouse.
