  1. Student Health Services

  2. Mission Student Health Services (SHS) is a department under the Division of Student Affairs. The SHS MISSION is to help students at the University of North Florida strive to advance their quality of health in order to support their academicperformance and retention.

SHS Staff • Chief Physician Board Certified (American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians). • Two NP Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (ANCC) • Director Board Certified College Health Nurse with American Nurses Credentialing Center. (ANCC) NP 5 RN 4 RT 1 Part time OPS nurses 4 Support Staff 5

Student Health is proud of our commitment to high quality health care for our students. • At SHS we respect the needs of the student customer. • Health professionals at student health services are not just physicians, nurses, and support staff we are also university/college employees with vested interest in the student's feeling better, learning something about their ailments, and succeeding in their academic performance.

  5. SHS Services • General Medicine Primary health care. Referrals to outside providers are made when necessary. • Physical Exams • Immunizations: MMR, TD, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Meningitis, Hepatitis A, Gardasil and flu vaccines are available. TB skin testing is also offered. • Women Health: These services include PAP smears, family planning education and counseling, treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy testing, and other women’s health issues. • Digital imaging (x-ray): Nominal charge. • Laboratory: CLIA waived laboratory is equipped to do routine labs. We also do specimen collections for more sophisticated procedures and send them to a reference lab for testing. • Travel Health Clinic • Medical Compliance issues: Immunizations and international insurance clearance. • Other Services: first aid, health education resources, nutritional counseling, Weight and blood pressure screenings are also available.

  6. SHS Services • No charge for office visit (paid by Student Health fee) • Minimal Charges for Labs and procedures

  7. SHS Programs • Students with Diabetes • Healthy Life Challenge • CPR for UPD and staff • Flu Vaccines

  8. Collaboration with COH& Mayo Clinic • Serves as a site for ARNP and Nursing student rotation. • Second and third year Mayo Clinic Family Medicine resident physicians completed medical family practice rotation at the SHS clinic.

  9. Student Health InsuranceConsortium United Health Care PPO pays 80/20 after a deducible is met. Pays at 100% at SHS. Major change for next year. Due to the astronomical increase in the voluntary plan, we will use a larger pooled student insurance plan.

  10. Travel Health • Student learning will be enhanced and retention supported by assuring that students maintain good health during Transformational Learning Opportunities (TLO).

  11. Why Student Health Cost effective and convenient! The Department provides a solid foundation for disease prevention by serving as a public health “checkpoint” to help minimize future interruptions in students’ academic pursuits.
