  2. 1. Current state/Major Achievements • 1971-Statistical Cell established under Development Ministry • 1979- Upgraded as Central Statistical Organization (CSO) under Planning Commission • 1994- Centralization policy • 1997- Revitalization of CSO

  3. 2003 – detached from Planning Commission, and Re-designated as National Statistics Bureau(NSB) with autonomous status Board chaired by a Cabinet minister, members from key govt. agencies 2005- NSB reports directly to Prime Minister 1. Current state/Major Achievements 3
