Small footprint Versatile due to multi stage construction head can be changed by adding or subtracting stages Variable depths to meet required application Very low NPSHR No need for dry sump Durable in corrosive and abrasive conditions Good for cold climate applications self draining self priming Advantages of Line Shaft Turbines
Things you should know about VT • Requires head room to set & service pump • Usually uses hollow shaft motor w/NRR • Column is threaded with a right hand straight thread • Column ends are parallel and faced to form seal when they butt • Vertical turbine pumps run counter-clockwise • Turbine shafting has left hand thread (self tightening) • Line shaft’s have faced parallel ends for true alignment • VT curves reflect single stage performance • Curve efficiency is for 3 stage bowl • For single stage bowl deduct 2 to 3 points efficiency • For two stage bowl deduct 1 to 2 points efficiency • Additional stages increase head not flow
(Short Set) Line Shaft Turbine Pump There are Four Major Components • Motor or Driver usually VHS motor • Discharge Head above/below grade packing or mechanical seal • Column Assembly product lubricated column & shaft • Bowl Assembly basket strainer (optional)

VHS Motor Components Adjusting nut used to set impeller clearance Must be used if pump is supplied with mechanical seal Motor coupling or clutch connects motor to head shaft
Non-Reverse RatchetHow it works • Looking down on motor the correct rotation is counter-clockwise • Centrifugal force moves the balls to the up and out in the ball carrier away from ratchet plate allowing the pump to operate • If the motor starts in clockwise rotation the balls will move to in and down locking on the ratchet plate and preventing the pump from turning

TACO VT Series Selection and Quotation Procedure • Selecting and putting together a turbine quote is much like putting together an erector set • As mentioned earlier there are 4 major components • Motor • Discharge head assembly (includes motor shaft) • Column assembly (column & shafting) • Bowl assembly (includes optional basket strainer) • Information required to select & quote a VT Series pump • Head & flow • Sump depth or TPL (total pump length) • Water level in sump • HP & voltage (if supplied)
Use submittal sheet as guide to work up quote Enter project information Enter required selection information GPM Head in feet Sump depth or TPL Motor information (if provided) Water level in sump (if provided) Select pump Pump-Flo Multi stage curve PDF Book Curve Single stage curve TACO VT SeriesSelection Procedure
TACO VT SeriesSelection Procedure Example: GPM 1250 TDH 115’ Sump Depth 11’6” or 138” Water level 6’ 6” Now it is time to select a pump Use PDF Curves on website: http://taco-hvac.com or go to: http://pump-flo.com
PDF Single stage curve Efficiency correction by number of stages; 1 stage: 2-3 points 2 stage: 1-2 points 3 stage: as stated Additional stages is like putting pumps in series it adds head not flow Divide total head by number of stages to determine trim 115’/4=28.75’ per stage TACO VT SeriesSelection Procedure

You now know you need; 4 stage VT09ZC Bowl assembly 60 hp VHS, WP1, 460/3/60 w/NRR The next step is to size the column assembly, discharge head, and basket strainer if required This information can be found on the VT Sizing Matrix found on page 4 of the VT Catalog 300-9.3 or the bowl assembly submittal page TACO VT SeriesSelection Procedure
From the VT Sizing Matrix you can determine the size of the following; Column assembly 8” Shaft sized by hp Discharge head 8” Basket strainer 8” Shafting is sized based on HP of the pump We know the pump requires 60hp The shaft size can be found on page 7 of the VT Catalog 300-9.3 TACO VT SeriesSelection Procedure
We now know that we are using 8” column and an 8” discharge head Based on the column assembly chart, 8” column accepts 1 3/16” & 1 ½”shaft. The chart shows that 1 3/16” shaft is good to 75hp, large enough to handle our 60hp requirement You now have your model # for your column assembly and discharge head VT08118CA column & shaft – 5’ length VT08DH discharge head TACO VT SeriesSelection Procedure
You are now ready to select a base plate and basket strainer (page 8 of the VT Catalog 300-9.3) VT08BP base plate VT08BS basket strainer This is a good time to pick up dimensions and weights of each item Enter this information on work sheet Now it is time to figure the bowl length TACO VT SeriesSelection Procedure
We know we have a 4 stage VT09ZC bowl assembly A single stage bowl assembly measures 23” and weighs 145lbs Each additional intermediate bowl is 8.5” long and weighs 54lbs. The 4 stage assembly will be 23” + (3x8.5”)=48.5” long It will weigh 145lbs + (3x54 lbs)=307lbs TACO VT SeriesSelection Procedure
The column length can now be figured using all the information on the work sheet Because there is a base plate being used, 1” must be added to the sump depth of 138” giving us a total depth of 139” From the sump depth of 139” the following dimensions must be subtracted; 48.5” bowl length 7.75” basket strainer 5” = approx ½ the diameter of the bowl for clearance This would give us a column length of 78” or 6’6” We are now ready to price the pump TACO VT SeriesSelection Procedure
Pricing the bowl assembly is similar to figuring the length and weight The first stage price includes the suction and discharge cases The price for each additional stage must be added VT09ZC-4 $5260 bowl assembly VT08DH $3001 Discharge head assembly TACO VT SeriesQuotation Procedure $2,518+(3x$914)=$5,260
Because column assemblies are priced in 5’ sections we must price 2 sections to make the 6’6” setting VT08118CA (78”) $3632 Column assembly VT08BP $1220 Base plate VT08BS $435 SS Basket strainer TACO VT SeriesQuotation Procedure $1,816x2=$3632
GE High Efficiency VHS Motor, WP1 enclosure, 1800rpm, 230/460/3/60, w/NRR and space heaters VTM-A1K1B $9625 VT08DH $3001 VT08BP $1220 VT08118CA $3632 VT09ZV-4 $5260 VT08BS $435 Total List Price $23173 Total pump weight 905 lbs Motor weight 1102 lbs TACO VT SeriesQuotation Procedure
