Meet Mrs. Doelling • Graduated from Saint Vincent College in May 1992 – bachelor’s degree in psychology • Worked in college administration for 8 years • Earned elementary certification from Saint Vincent College in December 2000 • Received the 2001 Student Educator Award for Outstanding Achievement in Academic and Professional Studies Leading to Certification in Elementary Education • Certified to teach Elementary (K-6)

  3. Meet Mrs. Doelling • This is my 12th year of teaching at Mountain View Elementary (11th in second grade) • Prior to my current position, I taught fifth grade for one year at Mountain View. Expectations CLASSROOM RULES *Follow directions the first time they are given *Raise your hand before speaking *Listen when others are speaking *Work quietly, and do not disturb others *Keep hands, feet, objects, and unkind words to yourself *Enter the classroom quietly, and try to bring a positive attitude REWARDS *Positive notes home *Certificates of achievement *Stickers *Fun items to keep *Whole class marble treats CONSEQUENCES Green card—warning Orange card—lose 5 minutes of recess Pink card—lose 10 minutes of recess and write note home Purple card—parents and/or the principal will be contacted

  5. Homework Binder Please check your child’s homework binder nightly! Current spelling words are kept in the blue sleeve. Words are tested on Fridays. Current math fact lists are kept in the yellow sleeve. Timed tests are given on Wednesdays.

  6. Storytown READING *robust vocabulary discussed orally in class *weekly story should be read at home once it has been shared in class *comprehension tests are given on Fridays—students read the tests independently Students should read for at least 10 minutes nightly! SPELLING *new lists given on Mondays *tests given on Fridays *challenge words are graded WRITING/GRAMMAR *weekly writing and grammar activities correspond with what is being studied in Storytown *students also take some assignments through the writing process

  7. Go Math! STUDENTS WILL STUDY: *number concepts *numbers to 1,000 *basic facts & relationships *2-digit addition & subtraction *3-digit addition & subtraction *money and time *length in customary & metric units *data & graphing *geometry BASIC FACTS— Practice, practice, practice! (Weekly timed tests will be given. Yellow study pages will come home for practice).

  9. Social Studies • History—pioneers and ancestors • Communities—citizenship; rules in society; belonging to many groups • Geography—continents; maps; landforms

  10. Health • Emotional and Intellectual Health • Growth and Development • Nutrition • Disease Prevention and Control • Alcohol, Tobacco, and Drugs (Saint Vincent College Prevention Projects)

  12. Home-School Connection We need your help! • Volunteer Opportunities • a note was sent home on the first day of school regarding volunteers for parties and field trips (the 2nd grade field trip will take place during Spring 2014) • PTO Clearance Packet

Reminders • Morning tutoring—by invitation on Tuesdays and Thursdays • Remember to check the homework binder each evening. • Field trip—will take place in May 2014 • Conferences—will take place in November—sign-up tonight!  Take a post-it to remember the time you selected. • Wellness Walk will be held on October 4—all MV donations come back to our school. 
