  2. The beginning • Born: May 23, 1958 in Passaic, New Jersey • Middle of three children • Grew up in Oaklyn, New Jersey (not far from Philidelphia)

Schooling • Bachelors degree in 1979 from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, majoring in sociology. • Worked as a performer in Europe and America for a few years after graduating. • Masters degree at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism • MBA from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business

Jobs • Began as a freelance sports journalist in NY • Feature writer and eventual sports columnist for The Fort Lauderdale News and Sun Sentinel in Florida • 1985- moved to Detroit- became a acclaimed sports journalist at the Detroit Free Press • Known as one of the best known media figures in that city’s history, working in newspapers, radio and television
