  2. Henry Hudson was an English sea explorer. He was born in 1565 in London and died in 1611.He navigated in the early 17th century. He found the now Hudson bay.

  3. The reason for Hudson’s voyage was to hopefully find the Northwest passage to China from Europe. He hoped to find a way through, to avoid having to go around all of Africa and the dangerous Cape of Good Hope. Whoever this passage would make trade with Asia fast and cheap and would have a license to print money.

  4. Hudson had to turn back twice because of ice but his third voyage. This time he continued east by a more southern route, on theories of a possible channel across the North American continent to the Pacific. After navigating the Atlantic coast, Hudson's ships sailed up a great river (which would later become Hudson Bay) but turned back when it was not the channel they were looking for. On a fourth and final voyage, in 1610-11, Hudson spent months drifting through the Hudson Bay and eventually there was a mutiny by his crew and he was never heard from again,

  5. Hudson’s his third voyage was on behalf of the Dutch East India Company in 1609. His fourth and final voyage was finance by England in 1610-11. Hudson sailed from London in April 1610 in the 55-ton ship Discovery. Exploration was often prompted by a lust for gold, to conquer people and acquire land, or for their religion. The astrolabe measured angles and altitude of the Sun to establish latitude. He could have also used a cross-staff, lodestone, sandglass, quadrant, or traverse boardsfor navigation and time.

  6. This voyage established a Dutch claim to the region and Hudson’s voyage started an interest in Holland by creating opportunities for agriculture and fur trading in the valley that would later be named after him. Henry Hudson established New World claims for the Dutch in what would become the New York area, and for the English in northern Canada.
