  2. HB 5 • Required for all incoming freshman in the Fall Semester of 2014. • Replaces the current 4x4 graduation program. • 22 credits required for all students to graduate • Multiple “Endorsement” Options which require 26 credits to graduate.

House Bill 5 Summary - Graduation Implications • 22 Credit Foundation Program: Eligible for general admission to an institute of higher education (IHE). • English – 4 credits (Eng. 1*,2*,&3 plus advanced English) • Mathematics – 3 credits (Algebra 1*, Geometry, Advanced Math ** • Science – 3 credits (Biology*, IPC or Advanced Science**, advanced Science**) • Social Studies – 3 credits (U.S. History*, Govt. 1/2 credit, Eco. ½ credit, Wld. Geo, Wld. Hist. or Combined Wld. Geo/ Wld. Hist.) • Physical Education – 1 credit • Languages other than English – 2 credits in the same language • Fine Arts – 1 credit • Electives – 5 Credits

  4. 26 - Credit Foundation Plan w/ Endorsement(Eligible for admission to an IHE) • Adds the following courses to the 22-credit Foundation Program • 1 Additional Advanced Math (for a total of 4 math credits) • 1 Additional Advanced Science (for a total of 4 science credits) • 2 Additional Electives (for a total of 7 elective credits)

  5. Endorsements • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) • Business and Industry • Public Services • Arts and Humanities • Multidisciplinary Studies

  6. Notes • All students must indicate, in writing, during their 9th grade year, and endorsement they wish to pursue. At the end of their 10th grade year, students may move to the 22-credit Foundation Plan under certain circumstances. • All schools must make at least 1 endorsement available: if only one is available, it must be Multidisciplinary Studies.

  7. 26 Credit Foundation Plan w/ Distinguished Level of Achievement • Eligible for Top 10% Automatic Admission to an IHE • Requires the same courses as Foundation Plan w/ Endorsements; however one of the 4 mathematics courses must be Algebra II
