  2. ACT Registration • September 16th deadline to register for October 22nd test at a National Test Site (MMCC). November 4th deadline for the December 10th test. • Required for 4 year colleges not for 2 year colleges. • 2 year colleges use them in place of assessment. • $34.00 or $55.00 (if you miss the deadline.) • With writing $49.50 or $70.50 (if you miss the deadline) • Extra college reports $10.00 • See counselor to check if you qualify for a fee wavier

  3. ACT Registration • Register on-line at www.actstudent.org • ACT Test Prep- free test prep book in the counseling office, books that can be signed out www.number2.com

  4. ACT/MME • MME Scores will be distributed in Academic Seminar. • At this time there will NOT be an opportunity for retake testing unless a student did not receive a valid MME score in all subject areas. • If a senior has not been tested he/she will test in in the spring with the juniors. • Exam exemptions will be given out for achieving a level 1 or 2 in a subject in which you have a class during trimester 1 or 2.

  5. Scholarships • On-line scholarships available now. • Local scholarships will begin soon. • Watch the announcements and the dry erase board by the career center for updates. • Students that find the initiative to apply, earn the scholarships. • www.harrisonschools.com

  6. College Night • 9/20 at CMU 6:30 - 8:00 pm • 9/22 at Northwood 6:30 - 8:00 pm • TBA Ferris • Over 50 representatives from colleges will be there . • Financial Aid Session. • Students and parents are encouraged to attend. • Fast Web college search (flyers)

  7. College Representatives • Many college representatives will be here this fall to talk with students. Sign up in Counseling office before the date. • Listen to the announcements. Posted daily at www.harrisonschools.com • Times and colleges are posted on dry erase board by career center in the counseling office. • Meet with them and ask about programs. • Some colleges will give application fee wavers.

  9. College Applications • Available in the counseling office and on-line. Many colleges prefer on-line applications (some at no cost). • 4 year colleges $25.00 - $40.00 to apply. • MMCC is free of charge. • Apply in the fall - before Christmas break. • Transcript release form for each application. (Even on-line apps) • Turn application into counseling office with transcript release form and check. • COUNSELING OFFICE WILL MAIL COLLEGE APPS.

  10. Completing College Applications • Blue or black ink or on-line • No white out • Neatness is important • Prepare essays and short answers (proofread) • No texting language ex: i, u, r • Use N/A when needed • Submit counseling page and transcript release to the counseling office. (Payment) • Practice application in Academic Seminar

  11. College Admissions • What are the requirements? Do I meet them? • Range from open (community colleges) to highly selective (ex: U of M) • Community Colleges only requirement you to graduate from high school • To highly selective (U of M) requires a 28 on the ACT and a 3.5 GPA. • Many Michigan colleges fall into liberal or traditional category where you need an average ACT score and a 2.5 GPA, this includes Ferris, Lake Superior, and Northern Michigan.

  12. Sending out Transcripts • Colleges require official transcripts for admission. • Transcript release forms can be retrieved from the counseling office or can be processed online through Docufide • http://www.docufide.com/

  13. College Costs • 2 year colleges - least expensive begin at $5,000.00 a year. • 4 year public universities - $15,000.00 - $25,000 a year. • 4 year private universities - $28,000.00 - $35,000 a year.

  14. College Visits • Narrow your choices down to one or two and then visit those colleges. We can assist you to set up a visit in the counseling office. • College Visits - you are allowed two excused days, need a note from home and documentation from the college to confirm.

  15. Financial Aid • FAFSA Apply on-line after Jan 1, 2012. • Must complete FAFSA to get state or federal financial aid. • Determines financial need. • Information will be available in counseling office in January. • More information coming in November.

  16. Military Reps • Reps. will be here during school year • Look for announcements and check dry erase board by career center in counseling office. • Sign up in the office before the date. • Army Navy National Guard • Marines Air Force

  17. Career Assistance • www.careercruising.com • Please take the time to update your EDP. • Career Center is available for career exploration and EDP work. • If you are undecided about a career or college I would be glad to sit down and work with you.
