  2. Graduation Requirements • Must Pass Reading and Writing HSPE • Must Pass one Math End of Course test • Must Pass Culminating Project (Senior English) class • Must Pass High School and Beyond Plan (plan done during advisory) • Must earn 22 credits • Must be nice to your counselors

  3. Options after high school • Begin working right away • Join apprenticeship program • Join Military • Enroll in technical school • Enroll in community college • Enroll in a University You should have a decision TODAY!

  4. College Fair November 15th 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM For all Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors at W. F. West High School During English classes Visit with college, apprenticeship and military representatives

  5. Senior Timeline • Sept/Oct • Visit college campus • SAT or ACT test (last time in Oct for admission) • Ask for letters of recommendation • Obtain transcripts • Start college application essays

  6. Timeline cont. • Nov/Dec • Get your PIN# for FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov • Have college applications done by Christmas break – apply online • Attend FAFSA information night at WF West • Start looking for scholarships – local scholarships posted in counseling center

  7. Timeline cont. • Jan/Feb • Apply for financial aid – FAFSA • Scholarships – local, online, and at college • Call college admissions office to check status of your application (application not complete until college has all info - transcripts, essays, application, and test scores)

  8. Timeline cont. • March/June • Scholarships • Financial Award letters and college acceptance letters arrive in mail • Make final college decision • NO SENIORITIS – maintain good grades!!! • Graduation – June 8th

  9. Remember…. • Please do NOT ask us to fill out a recommendation or transcript request the day before it is due. • 2 weeks advanced notice

  10. How to ask for transcript • Fill out salmon colored sheet in counseling center • Can ask up to 5 official transcripts at a time • Transcripts will be done by the next day • You send your own transcripts to colleges, insurance companies, scholarship committees, etc.

  11. How to ask for a letter of recommendation • Fill out blue form located in counseling center that lists activities (resume would work as well) • Ask teachers, counselors, employers, and community members • Make copies of recommendations and use for job applications, college applications, scholarships, etc.

  12. Scholarships • Local scholarships advertised through W. F. West • Notice in counseling center • Advertised one month before due • Local scholarships most active in Winter and Spring • State and National scholarships on-line www.fastweb.com www.collegeboard.com www.TheWashBoard.org
