Player Expectations • Get an education. • To give total effort, to make the most of what they have. • To give unselfish love toward their teammates and to respect them. • To practice to the best of their ability. • To be totally honest in all their dealings. • To be extremely proud of their school, administration, teachers, coaches, teammates, friends and most importantly, oneself. • To be prompt. • To be courteous. • To display traits of good self-esteem. • To be emotional and enthusiastic.

  6. 3 Strike policy If an athlete is caught or reliably reported to the Head Coach that will be released from the program if it is my third cumulative offense during their four years at DHS. • Failing a six weeks during Track Season • Academic dishonesty (cheating) • ISSC • Substance abuse • Skipping/absences from practice • Hazing • Theft • Breaking Curfew • Inappropriate Online Behavior • Other

  7. Missed Practices Excused Absence- 1 mile Unexcused Absence - 2 miles All miles must be made up before or after practice with a coach watching. The athlete must complete miles in order to attend the next track meet.

  8. Bus Travel Athletes are required to travel to and from the track meets as a team on the school bus due to liability issues. LIABILITY TRANSPORTATION FORM This form should only be used for emergencies, rare circumstances, or for academic reasons. 

  9. Coaches Expectations • To be loyal and honest to athletes and parents in all areas of accomplishment and failure. • To teach athletes that problems are a constant part of life and attack them as challenges. • To provide the leadership and training necessary to set and achieve goals. • To work each athlete harder than they have ever worked before. • To assist athletes in any way possible now and after graduation. • To treat athletes as adults and to love and respect each athlete. • To make all decisions predicted on what is best for the team, and then what is best for the individuals. • To give athletes discipline and teach each athlete how to develop self-discipline. • To teach athletes to exhibit poise in difficult situations. • To separate the performance from the performer.

Parent Expectations • Be positive with your daughter. • Encourage your daughter to work hard and to always do her best. • Be loyal to the track program and the coaches. • Insist that your daughter follows all team rules and polices. • Insist that your daughter makes good grades and school comes first. • Be a good fan while in the stands. • Insist that your daughter develops self-control. • Refrain from comparing your daughter with previous children who have players on the team. • Have your daughter see her coach first if she has a problem. • Enjoy your daughter and her accomplishments.

Communication Communication you can expect from your coach • Philosophy of the coaching staff • Expectations the coach’s has for your child as well as all the players on the team • Location and times of all practice and games • Team requirements, i.e. special equipment, off-season conditioning, etc. • Procedures should your child be injured during practice or a contest • Discipline that results in the denial of your child’s participation

  12. Communication APPROPRIATE CONCERNS TO DISCUSS WITH COACHES • The treatment of your child mentally and physically • Ways to help your child improve • Concerns about your child’s behavior ISSUES NOT APPROPRIATE TO DISCUSS WITH COACHES • Playing time • Team strategy • Other student-athletes
