  3. National News • The four new core programmes have launched. Early application rates are low but this was anticipated. The application date has been extended to 30 June. • We have held the regional leadership leads workshops and the programme design was well received. In particular: • The concept of supporting aspirant leaders to develop the skills they need BEFORE they take up roles, just as we do in clinical roles, to give leadership the professional weight it needs • The dominant patient and service focus • The practice focus of the design • The flexibility for employers to use the Edward Jenner programme elements flexibly within their own in house programmes • Some concerns were expressed about the direct application process however and as a result we have now agreed with the Academy that we will be reporting applications weekly to leadership leads so that they are aware who has applied and where they might want to promote applications in line with local talent development strategy • For further information on any of the above, please contact john.hunter@yh.hee.nhs.uk Core Programmes Nursing and Midwifery Programme Nursing & Midwifery Leadership Programmes Plans are at an early stage for an NHS Leadership Expo at the QE2 centre Westminster on 9 September. This will include a joint graduation for the GMTS scheme, and possibly the invitation of Regional Leadership award nominees. It will be a celebration of Leadership in the NHS We are anticipating the dates of new cohorts within the next couple of weeks. Meanwhile, some concern has been expressed about the lack of diversity amongst the first cohorts so we are considering how we might ensure that these opportunities are made available to a diverse range of applicants. Any ideas gratefully received! For more details about the programmes please email: Nerys.davies@yh.hee.nhs.uk Leadership Expo
