  1. The Arts A form of Public Speaking?

  2. Theatre “It has not been definitively proved that the language of words is the best possible language. And it seems that on the stage, which is above all a space to fill and a place where something happens, the language of words may have to give way before a language of signs whose objective aspect is the one that has the most immediate impact upon us.” -ANTONIN ARTAUD, The Theatre and Its Double Theatre is easily identified as a form of public speaking due to the nature in which it is delivered. Theatre contains a script which in itself is speech and actions, meant to stimulate the audience and make them think about what is being said

  3. Dance “The truest expression of a people is in its dance and in its music.  Bodies never lie.”  ~Agnes de Mille Modern Dance has broken off of the conventional paths that dance was previously on. It has turned into a way for the dancer to present a story to the audience using their bodies. An old form of dance from India named Kathak, is a form of dance specifically used to tell a story through the movement of the dancers feet. The Kathakdance form of dance was outlawed by the British ruled India, but was allowed again when India achieved independence in 1947. The British outlawing dance means that to dance would be a way of speaking out against that law. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_classical_dance

  4. Art “Art is the desire of a man to express himself, to record the reactions of his personality to the world he lives in.”~Amy Lowell “One of the best things about paintings is their silence - which prompts reflection and random reverie.”  ~Mark Stevens • Art has been used as a form of public speaking for as long as there has been people to create it. • For example, the government uses Art as a form of propaganda. Looking at WWII the Nazis would draw the Jews in a degrading way making them look evil and scary. • In the Sistine Chapel Art was used as a way for the worshippers to see the outcome of life, and inspire them to be better people • To see more ways that the Nazis used art against Jews visit: • http://www.nahost-politik.de/hetze/arabische-medien-1.htm

  5. Conclusion? The arts are an underappreciated form of public speaking by those in the field. However, there is irrefutable evidence that the arts are a more effective means of public speaking than conventional ways. I hope that you have all learned something new, whether that be a new way of thinking, seeing, or listening. Thank you
