Science vs. the Arts • Does science rob the world of mystery? • Are the arts frivolous? • Both are attempts to make sense of the world by looking for patterns in things • Science uses reason, arts imagination – but actually both ways of knowing are essential to both • Beauty and order… • Is science discovered while art is invented, or…? • Perhaps both are needed for a balanced view of the world? • What about progress in this area of knowledge?
