Bridge design process

Bridge design process. Bradlee Cruise Ms. Fitzpatrick 3B. Define the problem. The class was tasked with constructing a bridge out of balsa wood under a budget of $160K. Brainstorm. I know the bridge must be constructed using triangles to ensure stability.

  1. Bridge design process Bradlee Cruise Ms. Fitzpatrick 3B

  2. Define the problem • The class was tasked with constructing a bridge out of balsa wood under a budget of $160K

  3. Brainstorm • I know the bridge must be constructed using triangles to ensure stability

  4. Identify criteria and specify strengths • The bridge must be functional, stable and be as close asPossible to the budget

  5. Explore possibilities • I know I can use different measurements on each piece to ensure stability while reducing the price significantly.

  6. Select an Approach • Make a small bridge using triangles to be stable and cost-effective

  7. Make a model or prototype

  8. Test and Evaluate the design using specifications • The bridge failed multiple times and needed much tweaking to make it functional

  9. Redefine the design • I tweaked the measurements of each piece until it was stable enough

  10. Solution • My design was very successful and was in compliance with all criteria.

  11. Results • The bridge slightly exceeded the budget but was fully functional
