  1. The Paralympic Games The Paralympics Games are in international sports competition for athletes with disabilities. They are held in the same year and city as the Olympic Games. Vancouver was named host of the 2010 Paralympics Games. For most paralympic sports, the athletes are grouped into classes according to their balance, coordination, range of motion, and skills required for the sport.

  2. One event in the paralympics is the men’s 1-km time trial cycling. Each competitor completes 4 laps of a 250 m track. In 2004, the winner of the gold metal in the CP3/4 class was Darren Kenny of Great Britain. He completed the 4 laps in 74. 472 s. The Canadian competitor in this event was Jean Quevillon. He finished in 10th place, with a time of 83.848 s. About what time did each cyclist take to complete one lap?

  3. Dividing Decimals by a Whole Number: Long Division

  4. quotient 1.64 4 4.92 divisor dividend

  5. St-Pierre-Jolys is a small town in Manitoba. Every August it is home to the Frog Follies frog-jumping contest. The longest jump on record is 5.18 m. Rochelle entered 3 frogs into the Frog Follies. The total distance the frogs travelled was 4.92 m. About how far did each frog travel?

  6. Divide: 4.92 3 (Divide, subtract, bring down) • The first number you see goes under the bracket. • 3 4.92 ÷ 2) Then ask yourself how many groups of 3 will fit into 4, then subtract. Continue this pattern until you run out of numbers. 1.64 3 4.92 - 3 19 - 18 12 - 12 0 The decimal goes in the same place in the quotient as the dividend.
